Using the trailer in many climates during the fall and winter seasons I found it necessary to find an easy way to winterize the plumbing system.

On the left of the picture is the water pump and plumbing.

On the right side of the pump is the intake line, the line runs through a tee, a shut off valve, and continues to the fresh water tank.

Coming up from the tee is another shut off valve, used to add antifreeze to the plumbing system through the water pump.

From the valve  I have added a fitting and coupler to a garden hose quick disconnect (found at big box stores) on the right side of the quick connector is a hose (blue) coming from the supply tank with RV antifreeze.

This picture shows the supply tank on one side of the storage area, with the supply tube running from the lower part of the tank, to the pump intake port.

This picture shows the storage tank standing upright with the supply hose disconnected from the pump.

To fill the tank I use the large pliers in the pic to loosen the cap, and remove to fill, also the small stem at the top of the tank has a small hole drilled into it to supply air into the tank when using the antifreeze.

How the system works..

I shut off the flow from the fresh water supply tank and open the valve coming from the tee, (if I am going to have the trailer stored in cold weather for an extended time, I will unhook the disconnect, and open both flow valves allowing water to flow back to the fresh water tank, leaving air in the line.

The next step is to close the flow valve from the fresh water line, open the flow valve going to the tee, reconnect the garden hose connection, turn on the water pump and it will fill with antifreeze, open the cold eater faucets (one at a time)  until it runs pink, run the commode water until it runs pink.

A note about water heaters.. Our hot water heater has a by pass so that the hot water tank will not fill with antifreeze, saving using many gallons of antifreeze. If your does not have a bypass, kits can be purchased to do that.

Another note on water heaters.. I have removed the lower plug from the water heater tank and replaced with a valve so I can drain water in cold climates, and fill when in warm climates.

With this system I am able to switch fresh water to winterized in just a few minutes.
